Attachment is how we form our earliest relationships. It also sets the tone for our adult relationships and why we choose the mates that we do.
Do you tend to have a lot of anxious thoughts? Do you find it difficult to escape from negative thoughts? Does your anxiety hold you back from stepping out of your comfort zone or doing things differently?
We spend a lot of time in our own heads, hearing and becoming a symptom of our own negative thinking, which is why it’s so important that our internal dialogue is in a nice place to be.
When those thoughts become increasingly anxious, or negative it can impact the way that you feel about yourself, how you view the world and your relationships.
When you develop the ability to slow things down and recognise your anxious thoughts, it can help you to learn more about your anxiety.
Why do I need to know more about anxiety when I’m just trying to get rid of it, you might ask.
The Coronavirus talk is everywhere, it’s inescapable at the moment and it is a particularly difficult time all around, particularly for those with preexisting health conditions or those who are vulnerable.
The mass panic of the COVID-19 might feel like a stretch to some, but health anxiety is very real and can become even more difficult to manage during a time of crisis. You can follow the NHS health guidelines here.
For those with high anxiety, particularly health anxiety, this can be a real cause of concern because at the moment, the health implications are very real and that can be really hard to rationalise.
The term Self Care is becoming a common phenomena with many of its own hashtags #selfcare #selfcaresaturday #selfcaresunday are just a few with plenty of more out there in the world of social media. No doubt you would heard the term used before, but with all this talk of self care, what does it actually mean and how does it help people who want to look better and feel better about themselves? I often share with my clients the importance of self care and why it’s necessary to incorporate it as part of a healthy lifestyle whenever it is possible, including those times where there seems to be barriers or challenges preventing you from practicing self care.It can be particularly useful to those who are already struggling with mental health issues and find it difficult to identify when some of their own basic needs are not being met, no matter how small.
Workplace stress and anxiety is becoming more prevalent and is a common concern in the UK. Statistics show that up to 12.5 million working days are lost in a year due to stress and eighty-five per cent of adults in the UK experience stress on a regular basis.
We all encounter that feeling of stress and overwhelm when we have a lot to do. Our time is spread very thinly between working pressures, family commitments and the rush of fast paced living, which is prevalent in western society. There is an expectation to be busy, productive and to be able to deliver these results consistently.
Anxiety is a normal emotion that we all experience, during times of excited anticipation, or at times of being under extreme stress or threat.
Not all anxiety is bad, it is in fact a healthy emotion that we all need as a means of self-preservation and knowing when we might be in danger so that we can respond appropriately.
An acute response to threat is also known as the fight or flight response, this is the feeling we experience when we are faced with something physically or mentally challenging and is a natural human response.
The Impossible Task of People Pleasing
We’ve all been there, agreed to do something or other to help out a friend, a family member or a colleague despite being overexerted and pushed for time. At first, you are more than happy to help, being there for others is meaningful to you, it gives you purpose and it makes up a large part of who you are. But what happens when saying yes comes at a cost to you? Maybe you literally just don’t have the time, your plate is already full, you’re exhausted and thinking about when, if ever, you will get to have a break. Creating some time and space that is just for you is near impossible.
